After all the recent work I was impatient to get the Mangusta on the
road 
again, so I fired her up and charged off down the road. I was 1/2 mile
down  the 
country road that runs in front of my house when I remembered I had
removed  
the rear bumpers and tail lamps to tidy the tail up a bit. So, the car
had no  
hood, no engine hatches, no brake lights and no license plates.
Fortunately, 
our  little village has only a couple police cruisers, so you rarely see
a 
constable.  It was when I arrived at the first intersection and went to
turn 
around that I  realized I couldn't grab reverse. I got out, pushed the
car back 
around the  corner to turn around and who do I see coming toward me but
Barney 
Fife! I was  ready for a ticket when Barney asked me if everything was
okay. I 
explained  about the shifter and he wished me luck. He then followed me
home. 
Now I knew he  had to see that I had no plates or brake lights, so I
expected 
him to follow me  down my driveway, which he did. But when I got out of
the 
car he just said, "I  had to get a better look at this car, it's really
cool." 
We talked about it for  a while and I showed him the rest of the
bodywork and 
he left after wishing me  luck and a "Hope I see the finished product on
the 
road sometime".
 
Dodged a bullet!
