Thomas,
Based upon past history which others will advise you of, if you buy a Pantera that is unknown to members of the Pantera community, you are taking a chance.
If you buy a Pantera without having someone familiar with Panteras, especially someone who owns one, or your local chapter of POCA, then you are basically throwing your money on the roulette table for one spin of the wheel...lose it all, or win.
Not knowing the history of the car, to wit: past owners, known by club members, etc. adds to your chances of investing in something that will cost you a fortune to renovate.
Based on the current going prices of cars for sale that are well known cars within the Pantera community, a stock car not needing any repairs at all is still going to run you in the $30-$40k range. When you add paint, upgrades, and the other necessities required for a 34 year old vehicle you just may spend another $20k.
And if you have rust issues in the hidden places that Pantera knowledgeable people are aware of then you have got some serious trouble.
If there is one thing we all will agree on it is to have it inspected by a Pantera person, not your local mechanic.

Wayne,
I am currently looking at a 72L.
Can I get the rest of the phone number for that car...the one I'm looking at needs paint, 17" wheels and tires and a rebuild on the stock brakes. It has a rebuilt motor, new shocks, headers, a new dash, radiator, steering wheel. It needs some tlc, has 27,000 miles and is a So Cal car...$22,500. Doesn't seem to have a rust problem. Supposedly it was used as a show car by Ford when the L's came out.
If I so most of the body work/prep myself and have it sprayed for $500 to $1000, Wheels and tires $3200, Brakes $500 or replace with a complete kit $2000 to $3000...I should have a very solid car for under $30K???
Any thoughts?
Best regards,
Tom Borcich
