[DeTomaso] timing chain access and such-UPDATE

Hi all,
If you'll remember, my engine appeared to jump time while running at
Pahrump in May. Based on most excellent advice from many of you, I've
dug deeper into the engine's innards and this is where I am so far:
1.	discovered the dizzy pin is fine, can see clear thru the rolled
pin.
2.	have inspected the cam and crank gear as well as chain.no busted
teeth or chain.
3.	engine rotates freely (when tranny isn't in gear, thanks mike
drew!)
Of course, while the opportunity is there, I'll install a solid or
double rolled dizzy pin, replace the original cam and crank gears as
well as the timing chain and put 'er all back together. But I still
don't know what happened. At the end of a long straightaway, I
downshifted around 6k or so and the engine just lost power and shut
down. Turning the engine over in the pits resulted in a violent backfire
(not sure if it was thru the carb or exhaust as I was in the car and
didn't think to ask the spectators). Based on that, we all figured dizzy
pin or gear teeth, both which are original. But since those appear to be
fine, I guess the next place to look is the carb. Do any of you have
other ideas about what this could be? Thanks again,
Tom Di Iulio

Ps. The engine has not been pulled and access wasn't too bad for what
I've done so far.
