[DeTomaso] They won't be back....

Mike,
Corporate bottom lines and mergers like Ford/Jaguar are dream killers. If you ever owned a Jag E-type FHC or roaster with the 3.8 or 4.2 liter you knew you had a classic from day one.

My E-type was my every day driver until I started racing it in SCCA C production. Like everyone who ever owned an XKE you always hoped its much talked about F-type successor would follow...it never did.

Jaguar made allot of promises and did deliver the promised V-12 as the original styling of the E-type got fat ass DOT bumpers and environmentally friendly engines but continued to tease loyal owners and fans with artist renderings of front and mid-engine E-type replacements that were rendering beauties but none of them ever made it to production at an affordable price.

No matter how you may feel about a new Corvette Z06 it does deliver on its promises. In a world of $150K factory GT's, Ferrari's and Porsche's the Corvette Z06 is a bargain. I ain't saying I am buying one but the Z06 is a giant killer.....then again so is a Pantera with 500 HP and some minor suspension and brake upgrades! ;-]>

I can't tell you how many times I've been next to a newer GTO, heard the
rumble, and I looking around for the hot car, only to see that used bar of
soap. It did make me think about buying one as it is often nice to fly
under the radar, and what better package.
My anguish right now is with the new Jaguar coupe - I'm sorry, but to me, it
looks like a squashed 2-door Taurus. A little too many transfusions of the
Ford blood if you ask me. Very disappointing.

The GT really was the legendary car for this Century if you ask me......
Carrera's are kind of cool, but I like the older ones the best. The rest of
them won't be missed, at leat not by me. The GTO had all the right
performance for a fun street cat but unfortunately in a fugly package. The
Tauraus, that thing was bum ass ugly since the day it was conceived.
