[DeTomaso] MD fire on you tube

Not sure where that rumor got started.  There 'never' was any leaking brake line but certain that the fire started at left rear driver's side wheel and brake.
   
  There was an aftermarket modular 3-piece wheel that broke apart on the Pantera driving from L.A. up to Ely via Vegas before the ORR began.  This particular wheel that I had on the Pantera has broke or cracked on several Pantera's that I heard about after the fire.  When this particular modular wheel I had on the Pantera broke apart it also cracked the brake caliber and one flex brake line which were both replaced and inspected in Vegas before we drove the pantera on to Ely. The Pantera and the repairs were inspected at the shop that did the work and again up in Ely before the ORR and  all our guys (Curt Toumanian, Brock Tella & Erik Belter) looked at the repairs plus the SSCC Tech team. Again, no leaking oil line and no apparant damage to rotor.
   
  Again, at no time was there were any leaking brake lines after repairs were completed but according to the forensic insurance investigator AFTER the fire,  the rotor may have got bent or damaged at the same time the wheel and brake caliber broke....Sometime during the ORR at WOT the rotor, brake caliber and brake line overheated or at least got hot enough to start the fire...that was the forensic investigation feedback ...heated enough the theory went to cause enough heat to fire the magnesuim wheel and that is exactly where the fire ignited. . .in the Campy wheel... rest is coulda-woulda-shoulda quess work.
