NO out-of-the-box Holley will be perfect and double-pumpers meant for
competition are the worst at being mis-tuned. Holley sets them up a bit rich for
warranty purposes, for sea level operation. Then its expected that a serious
owner will dial in the carb on his engine to his liking. I've had no trouble with
tuner Holleys- I currently run a Holley 700 double-pumper tuned by a Pantera
vendor that both runs clean and gives 19mpg at 80-120mph. I have had MUCH
trouble with out-of-the-box carbs of all types and I expect the Edelbrock to be no
different although I have zero experience with it in its present incarnation
(it used to be a Carter 4bbl used on Chryslers). Suggest you call one of the
vendors and see what they can do for you. Good luck & Merry Christmas- J DeRyke
