The aluminum parts will be larger than the steel for the same strength.
Of course aluminum has a fatigue life that steel does not. As long as
the part doesn't bend in use, aluminum is a good choice.

FWIW, Precision Proformance has Hall's 1986 billet-7075 T6 rear uprights
listed in their current catalogue for $1800 a pair. Since 7075 at a T-6
heat-treat
is slightly stronger than mild steel, considerably stronger than stock
cast
iron and over twice as strong as the best cast aluminum, this seems to
be a
good solution for those who wish to shed 10 lbs of unsprung weight per
corner-
