[DeTomaso] A/C hose question

I don't know about where you are, but here in Houston you can drop the hoses
off at any OReillys or NAPA and have your brand new o-ring fittings cut off
and then have new old-style flair fittings swedged on. You'll loose a
couple of inches of length on each hose doing that but you shouldn't have to
replace the entire system. There are also such things as flair too-ring
(r-12 to r-134) couplers, though that would double the number of possible
leak sources in your system.

Surely someone in Europe can change out AC fittings on hoses. If not, send
the hoses back to the vendor and get another set with flairs.

OK, so general consensus is that o-rings seal better than flared fittings.
But to change over to o-rings if my car is equipped for flare fittings means
changing the compressor, the evaporator, condensor, etc, since all those
things are set up for flared fittings?

This would be good advice if starting from scratch, but if you are trying to
replace existing hoses you are kind of stuck, right?

Thanks to everyone for the answers...

The flared fittings are what was used originally with R-12. The o-ring
fittings are what are used with R-134. I would use o-ring fittings wherever
you can as they seal better, even for R12.
