Don't discount the possibility of having the gas tank rebuilt.  The
TPOC 
tech team just recently replaced a tank with a "rebuild" from one of the
local 
Pantera vendors and I'm sure the cost was way below the $1500  mark!
Any good 
radiator shop should be able to clean & restore a gas  tank.  Just
another 
option...
