[DeTomaso] "Popping Noise" on deceleration?

The Winged Warrior finally has it's new engine in but it's making a distinctive series of "popping" noises each time you let off the gas. I don't think it's the exhaust because it never did this before (with the previous engine).
Does anyone know the potential causes for this "popping"?
