[DeTomaso] ignition problem?

I too had the same experience with my Mallory Unilite. If that's what 
you have, the fact that it was a hot day adds to the evidence. It was a 
hot day when mine crapped out. After cooling a bit on the side of the 
road, it started again, then stopped. I made it home (it was only 10 mi. 
or so) and promptly replaced it with an external unit (can't remember 
the brand, it was probably 15 or more years ago) that lasted for years. 
I would imagine the distributer placement in the Pantera, out of the way 
of any cool air flow, probably makes the unit run hotter and more prone 
to failure. However they do seem to have a relativly short life and 
problems with heat according to this post:
