I'll take the middle-road on this one.........
Yeah, being first on-scene is really nasty at times, but accident do
happen. I think the best prevention for this sort of thing is to get to
know your car very well. That means spending a lot of time at a track
with an instructor and learn to operate at your cars limit so you know
what it feels like. Panteras can come around on you in a hurry if
you're not paying attention. The only other alternative is to not push
your car hard on the street.
Just driving it isn't enough. Drive it until you know how, then make
adjustments for not being on the track. Off-camber turns, poorly marked
roads, gravel, kids or dogs that jump out in front, etc. Anything can
happen when you're on the street.
I never play Monday-morning-quarterback when it comes to accidents, but
I can tell you what to do to limit your exposure to accidents and
injuries.
I'm really sorry to hear about your accident, Peter. Keep your chin up
and let us know if you are missing parts. There is always someone
around with an old part in their garage that you might need.

I disagree. You wanna play boy-racer do it in a video game or a
sanctioned track or ORR event.
The only sad part of an off-road accident is others lives who are put
at risk because some jackass can't drive and thinks he or she is Mario
Andretti.
Ask JB, Art or anyone else who is a first responder who has ever had
to respond, clean out and tag and bag bodies at an accident scene.

All,
I've posted Peter's photos at the PIBB, where you can view them without
that silly geocities 'unavailable' screen popping up.

As someone told me after my famous off-road adventure, "At least you
were DRIVING it."
You can't wreck them if they stay parked in your garage. ;-)
Peter, I'm very sorry for your mis-fortune. And very glad you are okay.
Here's hoping your Pantera can return to the land-of-the-living as my
2511 did.

Peace, be careful but DRIVE IT! PLEASE, everyone, be careful....
