Larry,

Useless Donny stays clear away from these Techno Sewing machine engines... 
You might want to do the same in the future......Like Nancy regan 
coined..."Just say NO!" But it sounds like your close to the problem.  I 
would put a timing light on number one and see it you can see a timing mark 
as you turn it over..... That would be the first thing I would do in your 
miserable circumstance with this friend.....
