[DeTomaso] Non Pantera motor question

Hello All,

I was helping a friend work on his car this weekend. A 2000 Satern 2.2 LS 
with dual over head cams, 4 valves per cyl with 120,000 miles on the clock. 
It started to run bad, low power, then just stopped.

It has compression 175 ish
It has fuel pressure at the rails
It has very good spark
No computer codes.

The thing I am not sure of is timing. A chain drives the dule over head 
cams. The chain raps around bad till the oil pressure comes up for the 
tentioner. Is this normal? I have looked for external and internal marking 
for the timing and can not find any. I have looked on line and at the local 
libuary for info with no luck. My thinking is that the timing has jumped.

Can anyone tell me about this motor?
