Hey Guys,
Gotta say thanks for all the posts on the stock fans vs. sucker fans. I have
learned a quite a bit and really appreciate your comments and
knowledge...only having the car for 4 months and seeing all the posts can
get confusing...you see one post from PI forum where someone's putting on
flex-a-lite sucker's, someone else is putting on pushers, but all the
comments input make sense (even MD's..but I have no plans of burning out my
car and starting with a clean sheet of paper). What I have is pretty close.
Mike, your points about the shroud on the sucker fans restricting flow at
high speeds is something I had not thought about because I had "assumed"
(oops!) that that issue would have been worked out if someone was using
suckers with a shroud, but as you point out an autobahn driver or someone
using the car on the track above 100mph for any length of time will see
different results than someone here in the states limited by congested roads
where the sucker fans work great. That trap door idea on the shroud crossed
my mine and is a fantastic idea but could also be troublesome unless
engineered right. That's probably why the Detomoso/Ford engineers went with
pushers that work at low speeds and allow normal air flow to do the rest
once the car gets rolling above 20-30mph. Since I have the stock pushers
with the later/better 8 blade fans (never realized there was also a 4 blade)
I'm going to run those and see what happens. I don't want to screw around
with the mounting issue either. If I have any problems I will upgrade to
twin 10 blade pushers from Spal or Flex-a-lite. Fortunately I have a new
brass radiator that is thicker and has more cores than the original and that
should be a plus.
Best regards,
Tom Borcich
