Looking for some help on things to check. The Pantera stalled and died
on me this weekend right in the middle of a busy intersection. I tried
to restart it a couple times with no luck. With my adrenalin jacked to
moon I jumped out and was able to push it uphill across the intersection
by myself. After I calmed down I tried to restart it again but it
wouldn't catch so I figured it was maybe flooded. I let it sit for a
couple minutes and after about 5 more tries it finally caught and
started. It popped and sort of backfired at first but ran okay so I sat
there for a minute and checked around the engine for anything obvious
then took off again towards home. At the next intersection it died
again. Seems like it dies when idling at 1k and then wont restart.
After waiting again for a few minutes it finally started but this time I
kept the revs over 2k everytime I had to stop. It never died again and
ran great so I was finally able to make back home. The first thing I
did was pull the distributor to check for the infamous distributor shear
pin. It was okay and the shaft wasn't spinning without the rotor
moving. I recently had a misfire occuring at 4500 rpm and I replaced
my OE coil with an aftermarket Mallory coil. That curred the misfire
and the car was running awsome for the last month so I don't think that
is the problem. So, now I'm thinking I have to go down a list and start
checking other possible causes of the car dying.
1. Carb
2. Fuel pump
3. Fuel filter
4. Electrical gremlins
Any advice would be appreciated - Thanks!
