CooI Dawg,

  The team needs YOU!

CART tires might work for ORR but Hoosier is good tire. Big Bob Benson 'averaged' 140 MPH in May and Larry "Rockhouse" Stock averaged 150 MPH both of them running Hoosier race tires. The feedback I have got from Roger Kraus about Hoosier and others at Goodyear and BFG is you definately want a hard compound race tire for ORR be it dedicated race or dot race....fwiw

I had a talk with Rick "Blondie" Moseley about race tires this last weekend at Laguna Seca. He was wrenching on fellow pantera owner's (Carl ???) vintage TransAm Mustang....Rick said all the historic racers were having a hard time finding "hard" compound Hoosiers so be sure if you are ordering from Tire Rack or some other distributor that you get the right tires. I know Shelby in Vegas is the distributor for the Goodyear GS-CS race tire which is dot legal and I've run those before. And those tires are a hard compound.

How many Pantera's for Silver State? All I can tell you for sure is I definately will be there with the beast.....And 3 others and one from Tenn. is coming in.....we need more east coast and Texas racers because you know no one besides me is coming out of SoCal. ;-]>

  Slackdawg,

I'm waiting to see if I can get some of those Bridgestone Cart tires I
saw at the San Jose Grand Prix. They are 27x11x15! Perfect for ORR.

If I can find a suitable front tire to match, I'm going to get some
custom 15-inch wheels made.

If not, I'll probably go with the Hoosiers.

How many Panteras do we have for Silver State? 4?

JB

Sean,

YOU DA MAN Sean!!!
I'm glad to see there is still someone out there who is NOT using lack
of money (jb) or mommy (jb) or there is nothing available (jb) as lame
ass excues to get their Pantera aftermarket wheels and tires at a great
price and run on the street, a track event or even an ORR (jb)...;-]>

Never forgetting to give ORR a plug remember there are just 4 more
weeks to go to Silver State... So if you drove to Monterey, Vegas,
Pocono or TWS this year your ready for the big time....tired of going
around corners at 35 mph? Tired of going around in circles? Okay then,
time to walk the walk. BTW, I spoke to one of the Car & Driver editor's
who will be doing a story on ORR and campaining a Porsche and he said he
will ensure we get some ink and photo coverage.
P.S. Still NO Mangusta has ever started and "finished" an
ORR.....first one that does Team Pantera Racing will PAY their
registration fees.

I wasn't going for cheap, but since it was there, I went cheap. Very
cheap. I've got single slot campies, and I thought I'd be sad if I
dinged
them with some spirited driving. So I looked at getting some regular
campies and I didn't think $1000 for a set sounded unreasonable. But I
was
intrigued by the Cobra R wheel thread that keeps emerging on the list. I
bought 4 Cobra R rims for $300 bucks, but one of the things that
disturbed
me in some of the pictures I saw was the front wheel looked too big at
17"
x9.5", and the tire size was too small for the wheel to keep it from
rubbing. So I bought some repo Cobra R rims at 16"x8" for $100.00
apiece.
Seems they're clearing them out since most folks want bigger rims these
days, so the new ones are very cheap.

I bought some Sumitomos in 245/45WR-16 and 275/40ZR-17 meats from Tire
Rack
for $69.00 and $88.00 apiece respectively and put them on the car. The
rear
ones fit great. I could get spacers to bring them further out to the
fender, but they aren't as far in as the stock rims anyway, so I'm not
concerned. I can't say the front ones don't rub. They don't rub much
more
than the stock tires do, and if I keep away from the extremes (like for
parking maneuvers) they should be fine. They look fantastic!

So for bop around wheels and tires, I didn't spend more than $700 bucks;
I
got all new rubber, a great new look, and I don't need to buy wheel
insurance :) See some pics on my Flickr account:
